Tonbridge Angels 0 Worthing 4 match report: Hosts suffer heavy defeat in FA Trophy second round
Nathan Odokonyero scored twice on his return to Longmead as Tonbridge were outclassed by Worthing in the FA Trophy second round.
Odokonyero, who had a loan spell at Angels under Jay Saunders, struck in either half, while Kwaku Frimpong and Brad Dolaghan were also on target.
Worthing arrived on a run of six successive National League South wins for returning boss Adam Hinshelwood and oozed confidence and quality in putting Angels to the sword.
Tonbridge barely touched the ball in the first half as Worthing dominated from the off.
The visitors are known for their possession-based football and didn’t disappoint.
Every Rebels player looked comfortable on the ball and the possession stats would have made frightening reading.
It wasn’t possession for the sake of it, either, with Worthing controlling the match in the Tonbridge half.
It looked like a training match at times and while the hosts perhaps could have got in Worthing’s faces a bit more, that was maybe easier said than done.
Tonbridge kept their shape well in the opening minutes as the Rebels probed away, looking for the killer pass.
But a mistake was punished as Alan Dunne’s side fell behind in the 14th minute.
Arthur Penney’s loose ball out of defence was picked up by Matt Burgess and he fed ex-Angels loanee Odokenyero, who finished across Jacob Adams into the far corner.
George Cox’s strike brushed the roof of the net and Adams denied Frimpong before Tonbridge at last got into opposition territory, with Marcus Sablier’s 25-yard drive going narrowly wide.
The Rebels scrambled the ball off the line from a Bailey Akehurst inswinging corner soon after but they were rare bright moments for Tonbridge.
Kyle Smith cleared Odokonyero’s strike off the line as Worthing
