Tonbridge Angels 0 Slough Town 1 match report

Tonbridge missed the chance to close in on National South safety when they lost at home to Slough.

They remain eight points clear of relegation after losing a flat Good Friday game at Longmead.

With five games to go, they should be fine, despite a tricky looking run-in, but they would certainly have made lives easier for themselves had they beaten mid-table Slough.

The only goal came early in the second half, Alfonso Tenconi the scorer.

Angels were unchanged from the side who drew at Chelmsford last weekend, while an attacking bench gave Steve McKimm plenty of options.

Slough had the best of a goalless first half that didn’t get going - the heat quite possibly playing its part in the slow pace of the game.

Josh Jackman fired wide from 25 yards, while the visitors forced a series of corners in the opening 20 minutes.

Jerry O’Sullivan made a comfortable goalline clearance from one, Tenconi failed to connect properly with another, and Edon Pruti saw a header blocked.

The one genuine opportunity carved out in open play fell to Lee Togwell and although Jonny Henly appeared to make a good save, referee Ben Atkinson awarded a goal-kick.

Tonbridge looked solid enough with their back three but struggled to get service to frontmen Adam Coombes and Tommy Wood.

Coombes stayed on his toes, closing down a couple of clearances, but Angels didn’t muster a single chance in the first half.

McKimm made a double substitution at the break, Aaron Smith-Joesph and Doug Loft on for Craig Braham-Barrett and leading scorer Wood in a change of system.

But the visitors drew first blood in the 49th minute with Joe Dandy getting away down the right and breaking into the box before laying on a simple finish for Tenconi.
