Tommy Fury has shades of boxing legend Gennady Golovkin about him insists John Fury

John Fury sees similarities between his son Tommy Fury and boxing legend Gennady Golovkin.

The Love Island star took part in an open workout in London on Tuesday and took the opportunity to showcase the skills that he has learned from being in camp with his brother Tyson Fury.

Tommy smashed the pads with dad John ahead of his next assignment against Polish cruiserweight Daniel Bocianski at Wembley Stadium on April 23.

The fight will take place on the undercard of his sibling’s big domestic dust-up with former sparring partner Dillian Whyte on Saturday night.

And John says he can see ‘shades of Golovkin’ in Tommy – despite him having only had a handful of professional fights so far in his fledgling career.

Fury, 22, is currently undefeated with a record of seven wins (four via knockout) and no defeats.

The 40-year-old meanwhile has been on an absolute tear in the middleweight division at 160lbs and has shown no signs of slowing in his advancing years.

Fury Sr told Queensberry Promotions’ YouTube channel: “I’m not just saying it, this kid works his butt off to achieve where he’s got today.

“He don’t need boxing, this lad.

“He’s got other avenues to go down but he loves this job wholeheartedly.

“He said, ‘Dad, my life won’t be complete until I win titles’.

“This kid can go all the way and I believe in him.

“He’s sharp, he’s strong, I also see shades of Golovkin in there as a younger man, and let me tell you, it’s all experience at this level, he’s stepped up to the plate, he’s got a 10-1 opponent, he’s a good kid, but you’ll see a different Tommy this time, you watch.”

Meanwhile, John also insists that Tommy’s close bond with his brother Tyson has helped him to become the fighter that he is today.
