TOISA 2021: Meet the nominees - Mirabai Chanu

The evaluation period for TOISA 2021 was from January 1 to December 31, 2021. All achievements during this time period were considered by the jury.

Meet one of the big contenders for the TOISA 2021 Female Weightlifter of the Year award - Mirabai Chanu, who won a silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics. Mirabai ChanuDate of Birth: August 8, 1994 Birth Place: Nongpok Kakching, Imphal, Manipur Sport:WeightliftingEvent: 49 kg Major Achievements in 2021:Tokyo Olympics: Silver Asian Weightlifting Championships (Tashkent): Bronze Mirabai Chanu started 2021 on a good note when she won the bronze medal at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent.

Mirabai lifted 86 kg in snatch and then lifted 119 kg in the clean and jerk, for a total of 205 kg for a world record. The only Indian woman weightlifter to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, Mirabai created history by winning the silver medal in 49 kg division with a total lift of 202 kg.

Mirabai not only won the first medal for India at the Tokyo Olympics, but she also made a new Olympic record with a lift of 115 kg in clean and jerk. Mirabai is the first Indian weightlifter to win a silver medal at the Olympics and only the second Indian woman ever to win an Olympic silver, after PV Sindhu.

For her efforts in the year 2021, Mirabai was nominated in the Times of India Sports Awards (TOISA) 2021 Female Weightlifter of the Year category.
