Toffees latest news: Donny van de Beek has got a 'point to prove' at Everton

Journalist Pete O’Rourke reckons that Donny van de Beek has a point to prove at Everton and was impressed with his “top” performance on his home debut last weekend.

The 19-cap Netherlands midfielder joined the Toffees on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season and has already been in the thick of the action.

The Dutchman might be just two weeks into his Goodison Park career, but he’s already played more top-flight minutes for Everton this season (120) than during the entire rest of the campaign at United (68).

He made his debut at Newcastle, but with just 30 minutes remaining, he was unable to make an impact as Frank Lampard’s side slipped to a 3-1 defeat.

However, five days later, the 24-year-old was handed his full debut against Leeds and grabbed the chance with both hands. It was his first top-flight start since the final day of last season and Van de Beek was clearly in the mood to make up for lost time.

According to WhoScored, he was the Toffees’ seventh-best player on the day, although he was given a rating of 7.23, which highlighted how good the majority of his teammates were.

Van de Beek had a better passing success rate (87.5 percent) than any of his teammates that started the game, made one key pass, four tackles and had 53 touches, the fourth most in the Everton side.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “It’s been a good start for Van de Beek, who’s obviously got a point to prove after a disappointing time at Manchester United, maybe not through his own fault, he wasn’t given the opportunity at Old Trafford, but I think his first start against Leeds, I think all-round it was a top performance.”
