Tipp blood six debutants in handsome win over Waterford

Tipperary advanced to a Munster SFC semi-final meeting with Limerick after finishing in style in Dungarvan to see off a Waterford side who started strongly in both halves.

The Déise led 1-01 to no score after a matter of minutes, with Jason Curry raising the green flag from the penalty spot after James Walsh was brought down.

David Power's Tipperary got into their stride however and responded with points from Jack Kennedy and Conor Sweeney (two frees).

It was tit-for-tat until Tipperary scored a penalty of their own via Sweeney, who did the needful after Sean O'Connor was fouled.

Tipp held a commanding six-point led at half-time, 1-08 to 1-02, but once again their hosts were quick out of the traps on the resumption.

Jason Ryan and Curry raised white flags to give the Fraher Field faithful hope, but Tipp, promoted to Division 3 in the spring, took control once more.

Substitute Steven Ryan adding the coup de grace with a super run and finish for Tipperary's second goal.

Power was happy with his side's response to Waterford's quick start.

"We were happy to be up six points at half-time," he told RTÉ Sport. "We had six players here tonight making debuts and that is huge. After the Leitrim league match we won five matches in a row and we were probably unlucky not to win the league final.

"To be fair to the lads, the last three or four weeks has been really good and now we have to knuckle down and get ready for two weeks and Limerick."
