Timo Werner takes dig at Thomas Tuchel tactics as Chelsea suffer £20m loss after failed transfer

Timo Werner has said Thomas Tuchel's tactics are partly to blame for his travails at Chelsea and losing his enjoyment of football. The 26-year-old striker struggled to acclimatise to life in the Premier League after joining from RB Leipzig in a highly-anticipated £45 million move.

Having failed to warrant his eye-watering price tag at Stamford Bridge, Werner has since returned to his former club in the Bundesliga, with the Blues losing £20million on their investment in the process. The Germany international featured 89 times for the west Londoners across a two-year stint, finding the net just 23 times.

And Werner claims that Tuchel's tactics were contributing factors towards his unconvincing record in front of goal. Speaking to the Einfach mal Luppen podcast, as quoted by the Metro, he said: "For me, the fun of playing football is in the foreground.

"That’s why it was clear to me that I wanted to take a new step," Werner added. "I’m at an age where I want to play as much as I can. I really associate very great successes with Chelsea – the greatest of my career. It will always be a special club for me. I will also stay in touch with many of the players from the team."

The arrival of Raheem Sterling proved to be the final straw for Werner, who already struggled to claim a role in the first-team ahead of the likes of Mason Mount, Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech. Tuchel still seems eager to further bolster the Chelsea strike force
