Timo Glock predicts shift in Leclerc/Sainz dynamic at Ferrari

Former Formula 1 driver Timo Glock has suggested that Ferrari may look to prioritise Charles Leclerc in the near future given his current lead in the championship.

The Scuderia have been the pick of the bunch so far this season with Leclerc winning two of the first three races, whilst Carlos Sainz has been on the podium twice.

However, the Spaniard had a tough weekend at the Australian Grand Prix and now a bit of a gap has opened up between the two team-mates in the points.

It’s early to be talking about Ferrari prioritising one driver over the other, of course, and Mattia Binotto himself has said that but, even so, it is clear that the thought has entered the mind of Glock, whilst others have mentioned it in recent days too.

“Leclerc is on an absolute high at the moment,” said Glock.

“Within the team, the leader is already relatively clear at an early stage. I’m sure Ferrari will prioritise Charles as quickly as possible in certain situations.

“Not yet to such an extreme, of course. But Leclerc is the World Championship leader and Carlos Sainz is already a certain distance behind him.

“Looking at Ferrari as a whole, it’s surprising that so many mistakes occur with Sainz but not with Leclerc.

“You could clearly see Sainz was annoyed because of the situation. It already started in qualifying when he crossed the line two seconds too late and so his lap didn’t count because of a red flag.

“But there were also many small mistakes that should not have happened to Ferrari. These happened to Sainz’s car, of all things.

“The Spaniard must have a lot of question marks in his head after the race weekend.”
