Tim Clancy takes over at Cork City

Tim Clancy has been appointed as the new head coach at Cork City.

Fans of the club will be hoping Clancy can repeat the feat he achieved in his first job in management, when he guided Drogheda to promotion in his debut season at the club in 2020.

The Trim man took the reigns at St Patrick's Athletic ahead of the 2022 season, with the Richmond Park outfit securing a fourth-place finish and European qualification at the end of the campaign.

Clancy departed St Pat's earlier this season, with assistant Jon Daly succeeding the 39-year-old.

Cork's dismal season culminated in relegation to the second tier of Irish football after a play-off defeat to Waterford, with Richie Holland and Liam Buckley unable to turn things around following Colin Healy's resignation in May.

Commenting on his appointment, Clancy said: "I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Cork City and cannot wait to get started.

"Since speaking to everyone at Cork City, this is an opportunity that I could not pass up and I am really looking forward to the challenge.

"I know that the fans and the people at the club are hurting right now after the season just gone, but this club is one of the biggest in the country and there is huge potential here.

"The opportunity is there to galvanise everyone at the club and get everyone working together to fight for a return to the Premier Division at the first attempt.

"We want to put a Cork City team out on the pitch that will entertain the supporters and challenge at the top of the table.

"The support at Turner's Cross last season was incredible despite a difficult season, so we want to give them something to shout about in 2024."
