TikToker who showed off relationship with her girlfriend was actually hiding a sinister secret

To the outside world, scrolling through their social media feeds, a Yorkshire couple's relationship appeared to be just like any other loving partnership. However, the curated reels and posts concealed a grim reality - one of vicious abuse and control.

Hollie Hanson, 26, from Knottingley, was sentenced to four years in prison on Monday, January 20, at Leeds Crown Court following a campaign of terrifying abuse against her partner. With over 25,000 followers on TikTok, Hanson frequently shared content about their relationship.

The victim bravely allowed West Yorkshire Police to publicise details of the case "in the hope that it will highlight domestic abuse in LGBTQ+ relationships and encourage other victims to come forward". The court heard they had been in a relationship with Hanson for four years, during which time Hanson often posted TikTok videos showing the couple in affectionate poses and visiting tourist spots together, reports Yorkshire Live.

But away from the camera lens, a much darker story was unfolding. The victim recounted to West Yorkshire Police how she endured controlling behaviour, with Hanson insisting on tracking her location constantly, prohibiting her from owning a phone, and even assaulting her with a vodka bottle.

The abuse escalated when Hanson, of Low Cross Court, strangled her partner and repeatedly threatened to kill her, culminating in an attack on a male friend in the early hours of September 2 last year.

Hanson launched a violent attack on their partner out of jealousy over the victim's relationship with another person. In a fit of rage, Hanson strangled the victim and then turned their aggression towards the man they were envious of, attempting to strangle him with his own chain.
