TikTok announce first UK and Ireland awards

TikTok has announced the shortlist for its first UK and Ireland awards. Many of the biggest content creators on the platform across the British Isles have been listed, from fitness influencers to music artists.

The awards will be announced in a ceremony on 3 December, presented by Michelle Visage with performances from the Sugababes, breakthrough artist nominee Leo Stay Trill and Bimini. Fans are encouraged to vote for their favourite artists and influencers via the TikTok platform.

Among those shortlisted are some of the most popular TikTok accounts. In the Creator of the Year category, there is a huge range of the kinds of creators nominated. The shortlist includes fitness influencer James Doyle, skit comedian, beauty and travel influencer Kyra-Mae Turner, business influencer Simon Squibb, and comedians Ayamé P, Asher Glean, and ItalianBach.

Down the list, the variety continues with the Video of the Year shortlist including videos about cooking carbonara, the anniversary of gay marriage being legalised in the UK, and an information video on how to pronounce UK place names.

In Breakthrough Artist of the Year, the shortlist includes many of the year’s newest musical names that have best used the social media platform to grow their fanbase. Northern Irish rapper Jordan Adetunji is listed alongside Egyptian alt-pop artist Nxdia, and English singer-songwriter Rachel Chinouriri.

These aren’t the first awards that TikTok has launched. On 27 November, the social media platform is hosting its global version of this new UK and Ireland-specific awards. The company has also run advertising-focused awards across Europe for the past two years, celebrating brands and agencies for their work on the platform.
