Tiger Woods bites back at Colin Montgomerie as Scottish golf legend reminded 'you're no champion'

Tiger Woods has slammed back at Colin Montgomerie.

The 15-time Major winner is at Royal Troon as keeps fighting through the pain of injuries to play in the Majors. Scottish legend Montgomerie believes Woods should retire, recently asked what the hell he was doing playing in Ayrshire and that he wouldn’t enjoy the 152nd Championship after his recent missed cut in the US Open at Pinehurst. But Woods, as a three-time Open winner, hit back with a pointed reference to the fact he’s earned the right having won the Claret Jug.

The American icon said: “Well, as a past champion, I’m exempt until I’m 60. Colin’s not. He’s not a past champion, so he’s not exempt. So he doesn’t get the opportunity to make that decision. I do. So when I get to his age, I get to still make that decision, where he doesn’t.”

In a recent interview, Montgomorie said: “I hope people remember Tiger as Tiger was, the passion and the charismatic aura around him. There is none of that now. At Pinehurst, he did not seem to enjoy a single shot and you think: What the hell is he doing? He’s coming to Troon and he won’t enjoy it there, either.”
