Tiger Woods announces end of long-time partnership with Nike

Tiger Woods and Nike have parted ways after 27 years, bringing an end to one of the most iconic brand endorsements in sporting history.

Having signed with Nike in 1996, the 15-times major champion announced today the end of the line with the sportswear giant.

Woods initially signed a five-year, $40 million contract upon turning pro in what was the start of one of the most lucrative deals in sports history.

The 48-year-old signed multiple deals with Nike over his professional career, including most recently a 10-year agreement in 2013 worth a reported $200 million.

Woods paid tribute to the company in his statement, but did not offer any details of what he would be wearing in his first PGA Tour event of the year at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles for the Genesis Invitational in February.

"Over 27 years ago, I was fortunate to start a partnership with one of the most iconic brands in the world," Woods wrote on X, formerly Twitter. "The days since have been filled with so many amazing moments and memories, if I started naming them, I could go on forever.

"Phil Knight's passion and vision brought this Nike and Nike Golf partnership together and I want to personally thank him, along with the Nike employees and incredible athletes I have had the pleasure of working with along the way.

"People will ask if there is another chapter. Yes, there will be certainly be another chapter. See you in LA!"

Nike also confirmed the ending of the partnership with its own social media post that showed Woods flashing his trademark fist pump and final-round red top along with the words: "It was a hell of a round, Tiger."
