Three Manchester United players can help Jadon Sancho give perfect response to Erik ten Hag criticism

Jadon Sancho is the latest Manchester United player to be on the end of a ruthless Erik ten Hag decision and the winger need only look to some of his teammates for the appropriate response.

Sancho was left out of the matchday squad for United's 3-1 defeat at Arsenal on Sunday, with Ten Hag insisting after full-time that he was not happy with the winger's performances in training. The 23-year-old responded via social media on Sunday evening, claiming he was being made a 'scapegoat' and that there were other reasons for the decision.

Whether the 23-year-old's approach was correct or not, it was bold. Going against the manager so openly can fracture the relationship beyond repair, as shown by the axing of Cristiano Ronaldo after an explosive interview with Piers Morgan last year.

Sancho is not the only United player to be on the receiving end of Ten Hag's tough decisions. The Dutchman left Alejandro Garnacho on the bench for all four games of their pre-season tour last summer, owing to the fact he turned up late for team meetings.

Garnacho, who was just 18 at the time, would not start for United until October. But the teenager knuckled down and worked on his punctuality, eventually winning the manager's trust.

Ten Hag then left Luke Shaw out for a month after two dismal performances against Brighton and Brentford last season, but the left-back worked hard to earn his place and ended up becoming one of the most important players last season.
