Three Manc coffee shops named in top five in the UK - with one district the place to go

Three Mancunian coffee shops have been named in the top five spots to get your caffeine fix nationally.

The study, from bookmakers Betway, uses its own index score to create a list of fan favourites. It has been generated by the number of hashtags each location has racked up on Instagram, as well as Google and Tripadvisor reviews — with the lower the overall index score the higher the ranking.

Coming out on top is Federal, which has three cafes in Manchester — on Deansgate, Oxford Road, and Nicholas Croft in the Northern Quarter. Also in the Northern Quarter is Fig + Sparrow, which came third on the list.

And the final Mancunian entry in the top five is Takk, which is on Tariff Street, again in the Northern Quarter. Using Betway’s scoring system, where a lower score is better, Federal got seven points.

Fig + Sparrow secured third with 14 points, and Takk got 21. Other coffee shops in the north to do well were Lovelocks in Liverpool, which was joints-seventh, and Lucy in the Sky — also in Liverpool — which was tenth.
