Three make-up mistakes you need to ditch now – they age you instantly

There are three common mistakes people make when applying their make-up, and it ages them instantly.

Make-up expert Alison Gay, known on TikTok as alisongaymakeup, has revealed many people fall into the trap of making the basic errors, and it can lead to people not looking their best.

According to Alison, the first error is using "too much concealer". She warns that applying this product too heavily can result in "liney skin", and leave your undereye area "super, super dry", making eye bags appear "horrific". She added: "Not to mention, you will look 100."

To illustrate her point, she zoomed in on one eye where she had applied make-up, leaving many viewers shocked at the result.

To fix the problem, she advised applying a small spot of concealer in each corner of your eye and blending it in with a brush. A setting spray should then be used to hold it in place.

The second mistake is incorrect contouring, as she said this can "drag your face down". She emphasised the importance of precise placement, starting by locating your cheekbone.

Using her finger, she demonstrated where to apply the make-up, and how to blend it in for a more "lifted" and less harsh appearance. The beauty expert highlighted a common mistake with blusher application, noting that many people use circular motions to apply the product all over their cheeks while pouting.

However, she warned that this can lead to an unflattering effect when the face is relaxed, as it may cause the cheeks to appear "saggy". To achieve the perfect blush, she advised placing a finger on the cheekbone and applying the product only above this line, avoiding the need to cover the entire cheek with colour.
