Three boys, 16, arrested for murder after 19-year-old stabbed to death in Bury town centre

Three boys aged 16 have been arrested on suspicion of murder following a fatal stabbing of a 19-year-old in Bury town centre.

The victim was stabbed on Market Street at 3.50pm on Friday - he was taken to hospital but died later.

As police increased the use of stop and search powers in the town, detectives investigating the 'shocking' stabbing revealed today (Saturday) that officers have arrested three boys, all aged 16, on suspicion of murder.

All three remain in police custody for questioning, Greater Manchester Police confirmed. The identity of the man who died has not been released although police say his next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.

Detective Superintendent Lewis Hughes, appealing to the public for information about the attack, said: "I'd like to reiterate that our thoughts remain with the family and loved one's of the young man who was very sadly killed yesterday afternoon.

"This has been a fast paced investigation and I am pleased to say detectives have made three arrests overnight in connection with his death. Although they remain in custody for questioning our investigation is still in its initial stages and we are continuing to appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time to come forward
