Three appliances in your house are costing you £800 a year

As the cost of living crisis continues, many of us are trying to save even small amounts of money wherever we can. As inflation reaches 7 per cent in the UK - its highest percentage in 30 years - it has never been more vital to cut down on everyday costs that lead to big expenses.

And one of the everyday costs we don’t always think about in the cost of living crisis is plugged-in devices which suck energy. A new study by electronics provider Freemans has revealed that certain appliances in your kitchen could be eating up energy - and costing you thousands, Birmingham Live reports.

On average, UK adults spend around £73.91 a month on all of our appliances. But according to the study, there are three appliances eating up our household costs, and they are likely ones that you use every single day.

The study revealed that fridge freezers, dishwashers, and ovens are the three biggest culprits. The average adult spends a whopping £43.68 every month just on powering their fridge freezer - though this would be a very difficult one to knock, even for the most money-savvy among us.

Your fridge freezer uses the most energy by miles, but coming up behind it is the dishwasher - which uses around £10.30 per month. After that, our ovens cost around £9.36. But though most of these are hard to cut down on, it’s certainly useful to be aware of which of our appliances use the most energy. These three appliances come up to a joint cost of around £800 a year.

After these comes an electric stove at £5.20, a coffee machine at £0.73, microwaves at £0.55, the extractor fan which uses £0.37, a toaster at £0.33, and an espresso machine, coming in at £0.19.
