Threave Rovers prepare for toughest challenge of season so far

Threave Rovers’ boss Vinnie Parker reckons Saturday’s clash with Bellshill Athletic could be his side’s toughest challenge of the season so far.

The Lanarkshire side head to Castle Douglas top of the third division of the West of Scotland League, having dropped just two points from their opening five games.

Parker said: “They’ve started really well, they’re top of the league, they seem to be scoring goals and don’t seem to be conceding.

“I think it’ll be an entertaining game and we’re looking forward to it.

“Glasgow United were very, very good but I think Bellshill will probably be our biggest test of the season so far.

“They don’t look too dissimilar to ourselves, they try to play football, they score some good goals and they look to attack.

“There’s been a notable difference in the standard from the fourth division and how hard teams work against you.

“I think what epitomised that was against Girvan. It was a really good, tough game.

“We played really well and I think the boys were a bit down as at Threave we’re not expected to draw, we’re expected to win.”

Threave picked up their second league win of the season on Saturday when they beat Kello Rovers 4-1 in a Dumfries and Galloway derby.

They led at the break thanks to Dylan Cairnie’s goal, Connor Potts volleying in the second just after the break.

Kello got one back with a quarter of an hour to go but Finlay Bainbridge soon restored Threave’s lead with Potts wrapping things
up.

Parker said: “It was slightly difficult conditions – the weather wasn’t great and the pitch wasn’t too great. I thought we were really good, we created loads of chances and had plenty of possession.
