Threave Rovers look to end season in a high with Cree Lodge Cup success

Threave Rovers are looking to end their season on a high this weekend.

The Castle Douglas side face Lochar Thistle in the final of the Cree Lodge Cup.

The game will take place at Maryfield Park – home of new Utility Hut South of Scotland League champs Abbey Vale.

Threave boss, Vinnie Parker, said: “It’s always good to end a season with a cup final and we’re looking forward to the occasion.

“I’ve been to see them and watched them a couple of times. Chris Jardine has done an absolutely exceptional job there. They’re a really good team, they try to play the game the right way. Iain Anderson up front has bags and bags of quality so he’s going to be a real threat.

“They’ve got Robbie Hogg in the middle of the park and a lot experience at the back as well.

“It’ll be a tough, tough game and an entertaining fixture to go down to watch.”

Threave Rounded off their West of Scotland League campaign more than a month ago and haven’t played since they beat Creetown in the semi-finals of the cup in the last week of April.

Parker said: “We’ve had a wee bit of a lay-off. We continued training last week and we’ve also had some social events.

“We’ve had our end-of-season awards night and our captain Danny Dunglinson had a team barbecue and everyone was there on Saturday with their family.

“Everybody is fit and available, that time off has allowed Lewis Todd some rest as he was struggling with his groin.

“Lewis Sloan is probably 65 per cent fit. He took a bad one against West Park but is on the road to recovery and will be available in some shape or form on Saturday.”

This season was Threave’s first in the West of Scotland League and they clinched promotion from the fourth division.
