Threave Rovers hammer Caledonian Braves to lift Cree Lodge Cup

Threave Rovers lifted the Cree Lodge Cup on Friday night.

The Castle Douglas side thumped Caledonian Braves 5-0 to bring the trophy back home from Lockerbie.

Boss Vinnie Parker said: “We scored some great goals and the second half especially was an exceptional performance.

“We had a shaky first five or 10 minutes. We maybe got caught a bit off guard with some of their players being so tricky and pacey but as soon as we got to grips with that we dominated.

“We missed three or four chances ourselves in the first half and it could have been two or three-nil.

“We felt like we just went up a level in the second half, especially Dan Carmichael. The two goals he scored were absolutely exceptional.

“I’m really happy for a few of those boys. Adam Uphill has been here for four years and that was the first trophy he’s lifted and he did it as captain.

“Some of the younger boys who maybe had a tough time at Queens, Ewan Gourlay and Callum Williams, had the time of their lives and that’s what cup finals are all about.

“Even the boys that are injured or have fallen away are still there as we’re a tight unit.

“It’s all about the boys but it’s certainly nice to get your first trophy as a manager.”

Threave were 1-0 up at half-time thanks to a great goal from skipper Adam Uphill. After the break, Scott Milligan doubled the advantage when he scored from Callum Williams’ cross before Carmichael got the third.

The former Hibs and Queen of the South man made it four before Tom Smith rounded off the scoring late on.

The win gave Threave their first silverware of the season but it may not be the last with two cup finals still on the horizon.
