Threave Rovers boss reckons club's Meadow Park home will have artificial surface "sooner rather than later"

Threave Rovers could be set for a switch to plastic.

Boss Vinnie Parker reckons an artificial surface could be put down at Meadow Park “sooner rather than later”.

Drainage issues have led to a number of games being called off in recent weeks, the Castle Douglas side even switching fixtures to Queen of the South’s Palmerston Park in a bid to get matches played.

Parker said: “It’s the best pitch in the land in the summer, you can’t get a better pitch at that time of year but for some reason it’s not holding any water.

“The club got someone in to have a look at it to see what the problem is.

“We originally thought it was a drain but now we think it’s something else.

“Being honest I’m sick of it. I want a 4G pitch and I think that’s something that will happen sooner rather than later.”

It wasn’t the weather that stopped Threave having a game last weekend, the fixture list handing them a blank Saturday.

And that allowed some of their injuries to clear up ahead of Saturday’s league game against Abbey Vale.

Parker said: “We had the weekend off but we trained last week. Our physio Catriona Clark did a clinic and got a few boys in that were struggling.

“It was quite positive, we got boys back in for training on Monday and we’re hoping to have a few more back fit for Saturday.

“Dan Carmichael should be back but Ryan Coates is still out injured. Alex Henderson and Ewan Gourlay should be back too.

“Farrel O’Sullivan and Stuart Douglas are out long term but Tom Smith will hopefully be back.

“He did the meniscus in his knee but he’s recovered quite quickly.

“He’s played bits and bobs the last couple of weeks so will hopefully be fit for Saturday.

“We need to beat Abbey Vale.
