Threave Rovers boss hopes first defeat acts as a wake-up call

Threave Rovers gaffer Danny Dunglinson is hoping his side’s first defeat of the season acts as a wake-up call.

The Meadow Park side had been on a good run of form before going down 3-0 at home to Glenvale on Saturday.

Dunglinson said: “Hopefully it’s a wake-up call. We’ve said to them their ability will get them through games if they work hard. On Saturday they were outworked and didn’t have the chance to shine through.

“The things we’re good at we didn’t do and we only had one chance the whole game.

“They didn’t create many chances, we gave them three goals – it was ricochets and the ball broke their way three times.

Overall, they set up to stop us playing and did the job they were there to do and deserved the win as we didn’t perform at all.

“We said to them after the game that training was a bit flatter than before and they agreed.

“It was maybe an over-confidence thing after the last few results and thinking we just needed to turn up and win, which is never the case in the West of Scotland League.

“Teams will fight and scrap for everything so we need to be more switched on to that.”

Brian Connolly gave Glenvale the lead at the break, Nicky Donnelly doubling the advantage in the second half.

And Connolly’s second goal ensured the visitors left with all three points.

Threave’s focus switches to the Scottish Cup this weekend as they head to Ayrshire to face Glenafton Athletic.

And their opponents are massive favourites as they play in the West of Scotland Premier Division, with Threave currently in the third division.

But last season’s run in the SFA South Region Challenge Cup shows they are capable of causing an upset.
