Thousands expected to turn out for Stockport soap box races later this month

More than 15,000 people are expected to rock up in Stockport as the Totally Krazy Races Soapbox Derby returns.

The town's very own version of wacky races, the square will be turned into a course for custom-made soap boxes vying for to cross the finish line first. The race begins at St Peter’s Square, where teams will tear down towards Mersey square past the iconic Plaza building.

From there, racers will have to navigate a sharp right toward Stockport's famous Air Raid Shelters. All the money raised at the event will be for local charities, including The Christie and St Ann’s Hospice. Krazy Races is set to take place at the end of the month on Sunday July 28.

The grand prix will be just one of the many events taking place in Stockport this summer. Stock Party Rocks comes to the Town Centre on Saturday (July 20). This weekend will see a rock themed street party held at the Underbanks from 12pm to 9pm.

There will be food and drink pop ups at the celebration, as well as vendors in Festival Square and the Courtyard near to the Robinsons Brewery. More information can be found here.

Last year, The Krazy Stockport Races saw more than 30 teams entertaining crowds and competing to have the fastest soapbox kart. As well as the Lancaster Bomber flyover as part of the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, there were also appearances from Robinson's Brewery shire horses, a giant digger for families to enjoy and plenty of food and drink on offer throughout the day.
