Thomas Tuchel told how to solve Conor Gallagher conundrum after top season with Palace

Former Chelsea player Glen Johnson has told Thomas Tuchel how he can solve the future of Conor Gallagher after the midfielder’s exceptional campaign with Crystal Palace.

Gallagher spent last season on loan at West Brom in a bid to gain more senior experience. He opted to do the same last summer, although this time the Englishman went on to join Crystal Palace.

Patrick Vieira has got the best out of Gallagher and he has resultantly been one of Palace’s top performers during an exciting season.

Gallagher was in particularly good form during the first half of 2021-22. He hit Premier League braces against West Ham and Everton, while also finding the net against Manchester City and Wolves.

Gallagher’s goal return has slowed down in recent months. His last strike in the league came against Watford back in February.

Nevertheless, the 22-year-old has been top class for Palace and could push for a starting spot in the Chelsea team next term.

There have been rumours of a permanent move to Selhurst Park. However, Palace are unlikely to have the funds required to snatch him from Chelsea.

Johnson reckons Gallagher should spend another season on loan away from the Blues to become even better. Then, he will have a great chance of making it into the Chelsea midfield the following campaign.

“Right now, I’m not sure if Conor Gallagher would get in Chelsea’s team,” Johnson said (via football.london).

“As he’s been doing so well out on loan to Palace, if I was Chelsea, I’d be keen to give him another year on loan.

“That would give him another year to develop further, enjoy the games, learn the trade and then start smashing the first team door down the season after, but a lot can change in football.”
