Chelsea have a 10 per cent chance of reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League following their 3-1 first-leg defeat to Real Madrid. That's according to FiveThirtyEight's supercomputer, that rates each team's chances of making the semis, the final, and winning the competition outright.
The Blues were beaten 3-1 by Los Blancos on Wednesday evening with Karim Benzema scoring a superb hat-trick for the visitors at Stamford Bridge. Kai Havertz got the only goal of the night for Chelsea to give them a glimmer of hope, but the 13-times champions of Europe are in a commanding position.
After the match, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was asked if he feels as if the tie is "still alive" and he issued a brutal five-word response, saying: "No, not at the moment." This has been somewhat backed up by the supercomputer that gives the Blues just a 10 per cent chance of progressing into the last four.
To make the final of the competition for the second year running, Chelsea have been given a 3 per cent chance and to retain their European crown, there's a 1 per cent chance. The Blues have it all to do next week at the Santiago Bernabeu, there's no doubt about that, but stranger things
