Thomas Tuchel already has Jamie Carragher's seal of approval over next transfer target

Chelsea transfer target Adam Webster has impressed many with his showings in recent weeks, including Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.

The Blues are on the prowl for a new centre-back amid speculation over the future of current star Antonio Rudiger, while Thiago Silva's age means he is unlikely to play at the highest level for much longer.

Cesar Azpilicueta can also be deployed as a central defender if need be but the Spaniard's future is also up for debate given the recent interest from La Liga giants FC Barcelona.

As a result, Blues boss Thomas Tuchel has explored his options and identified Webster as a player that could potentially be enticed to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

The 27-year-old is a regular at the Amex and has caught the eye of a man who knows what it takes to play as a centre-back in the Premier League in Reds icon Carragher.

Last month, during Chelsea's trip to Brighton, the former England international took to Twitter to sing the praises of the Blues' latest target.

"Adam Webster’s passing out from the back, with both feet is better than any other English central defender," wrote Carragher.

Webster has impressed for the Seagulls since his switch from Bristol City in 2019 and has even been the subject of recent shouts for an England call-up.

If the Blues are to secure Webster's signature, they'll have to fend off interest from Newcastle United in the process.

The Magpies have already raided Graham Potter's side once recently after the deadline day acquisition of another Brighton defender in Dan Burn.
