“This would be very exciting for Spurs” – Tottenham cast eyes over influential Middlesbrough player: The verdict

This article is part of Football League World’s ‘The Verdict‘ series, which provides personal opinions from the FLW writers regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring the progress of Middlesbrough wing-back Isaiah Jones, as per a report from TEAMtalk

The reports names Spurs, Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Leeds, West Ham and Wolves, all as English top-flight teams who have scouted him this year.

TEAMtalk have also revealed that Atletico Madrid, Ajax, RB Leipzig, Lyon and Roma are providing European competition for the 22-year-old who Middlesbrough picked up from Tooting & Mitcham United.

Chipping in with a goal and nine assists, whilst being a consistent source of creativity and attacking-third involvement, Jones is proving to be one of the most influential players in the entire Championship.

Three of our writers here at FLW have shared their thoughts regarding Spurs’ interest in the highly-talented wing-back…

This would be very exciting for Spurs.

It seems a little soon possibly considering that Jones has not proven himself as an effective performer at Championship, except this season and therefore it could be smart to wait a bit longer before looking to determine his true potential.

It is easy to see where he would fit into Antonio Conte’s system with his desire to deploy wing backs and a back three.

Jones has been one of the breakout stars in the EFL this season and so it could represent smart business for Spurs to sign him in the summer and then look to loan him for one more campaign to monitor his development.

If Boro win promotion this season then they have a much better chance of keeping Jones at The Riverside.
