'This might be curtains' - Insider now expects Spurs exit for ace Conte said he 'can count on'

Journalist Graeme Bailey has claimed on the Talking Transfers podcast that Harry Winks may no longer have a future at Tottenham Hotspur.

For the second transfer window in a row, Antonio Conte is looking to improve and bolster his midfield, as Spurs have agreed a fee for Premier League ace Yves Bissouma, which will reportedly set them back around £25m.

Adding someone with such experience in the Premier League as Bissouma will be seen as a top signing by Spurs, but players on the fringes may now be sweating over their futures, including academy graduate Harry Winks, who’s been tipped with a move away from the club this summer.

Bailey believes that once Bissouma arrives, Winks will no longer have a future at Tottenham.

He said: “I think that’s the thing with some Spurs fans, they think Ndombele was ‘the’ player in Europe when we signed him, so I think there will always be a little bit of reticence to these midfielders coming in, but as you say, I think this might be curtains for Harry Winks’ Spurs career, I really do.”

After being a regular fixture within the Spurs first-team setup for six seasons, last campaign saw the midfielder’s career stagnate, starting just nine league games – with his last start coming all the way back in February.

The fact that Conte has decided to go and recruit two new midfielders in the space of a few months shows he was not overly impressed by what he saw from the players at his disposal last season, which won’t be good news for Winks at all.

But this does bring into question some previous comments from the Italian on Winks at Spurs, with Conte saying: “Winksy is a player, I know that I can count on him.”
