"This is the worst it's ever been" - Fear and shock on streets after man stabbed by hooded gang

Residents living in the neighbourhood where a man was stabbed by three hooded men have expressed their shock at the 'awful' incident. A man in his 40s was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being stabbed twice in a terrifying attack in Woodley in Stockport.

Uniformed police and detectives were in the area with two scenes in place in Woodley today (October 10). One cordon was placed where the man is believed to have been attacked, and another where he was found.

Residents reported another cordon that was placed close to the Woodley Civic Hall but was later removed.

One resident says they heard 'screaming' coming from the area but did not suspect anything as that has been a 'constant' in the area, while other residents said they were shocked to hear the news of a stabbing.

Speaking to the MEN one resident said: "I went to bed at 10:30 last night and I heard screaming. I didn't think anything of it because that's been constant around here recently."

A resident who heard the news said: "Apparently he's in hospital and is 'critical' I hope he pulls through. I don't understand why people do this, it's never worth it." A shocked resident said: "This is the worst it's ever been and I've lived here for 25 years."

A worried neighbour said: "It's usually a quiet area, but it gets a bit rough the further you go. Apparently it happened last night, just awful." While another added: "When I get home I just close the door and lock myself in."

Another resident pointed to the recent 'trouble' in the area and said the incident comes as no surprise. They said: "It's not a regular occurrence but nobody's surprised. "
