'This is some sort of sick joke' - Lidl angers shoppers with crisp ratings

Supermarket Lidl is in hot water with shoppers after rating some of the country's much-loved crisps.

It may well be a light-hearted look at some of the nation's favourites, but it's serious business for crisp fans. The budget retailer decided to rank a variety of the snacks, from 'respectfully no tier' at the bottom, to 'tier of joy' at the top. And it's got shoppers in a bit of a tiz.

"Blue Squares are the king of crisps. How dare you," said Deb Scott, after the Walkers pack was placed on the bottom tier, while Bev Whitby added: "How can anyone put cheddars of any description at the bottom - appalling."

"Please delete this post and put Chilli Heatwave at the top where they belong," said Craig Asson, adding: "Shocking behaviour." The top tier proved just as controversial.

"You’re so wrong! Discos are evil!!!" said Chelly Bobs, "I’m a crisp expert and they need destroying! Oh and promote Doritos to their rightful spot at the top too!"

What do you make of the ranking? What are the favourites in your house? Let us know in the comments here.

Others questioned the absence of some family favourites, like Laura Evans, who said: "Where are the Fish and Chips?!" and Dawn Edwards, who quizzed: "Where are the Scampi & Lemon Nik Naks? What about prawn cocktail or bacon crisps? And to leave out Flaming Hot Monster Munch is unacceptable!!!!"

In its Facebook post, the retailer lists its other tiers as 'heck yes tier', featuring the likes of spicy Nik Naks and Monster Munch and the 5/10 tier featuring Hula Hoops, Chipsticks and more.

The tastebuds of Lidl's marketing team may well be under scrutiny, but they certainly know how to spark a debate.
