‘This is on’ - National media title race verdict as Arsenal win builds Man City pressure

Arsenal successfully kept the pressure on Manchester City’s title bid with their convincing win over Chelsea.

The Gunners earned a dominant 5-0 win over their London rivals to move three points clear at the top and four points beyond City. The size of that lead could be short-lived, though, with Liverpool set to play tonight and Pep Guardiola’s side having two games in hand over Arsenal.

However, goals from Leandro Trossard, Kai Havertz and Ben White ensured that Mikel Arteta’s team did all they could to stay ahead of their title rivals. Here’s what the national media have said about the title race after Arsenal’s emphatic victory at the Emirates Stadium.

“This could have been a dangerous fixture, and potentially spoiled their run-in again. It has done the opposite. Arsenal are now looking at that trophy with much more vigour again. This is on,” summarised Miguel Delaney for The Independent.

“Aiding that, it is possible that last week’s deflating Champions League elimination might have been the best thing to happen to Arsenal’s run-in. They have time and space to breathe between games now. They also, most importantly, have a lead.

“There is an element of illusion about that, although not as much as with this Chelsea team. Arsenal have played one more game than Liverpool and two more than Manchester City. There is the likelihood this will be reset. For the moment, however, Arsenal have done what they can. And it may change things.”
