This Guy Trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for 30 Days and Then Tried to Win a Fight

YouTuber Brandon William has taken on all manner of physical challenges on his channel, from the U.S. Navy SEAL fitness test to the One Punch Man workout. In his latest video, he subjects himself to 30 days of gruelling Brazilian jiu jitsu training, in combination with calisthenics and strength training, to see how far he can progress in the span of a month.

His coach for this challenge is Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt Wilson Reis, who wastes no time in teaching him the basics. At the start of the month, William sets himself a PR of how long it takes him, a complete beginner, to be put into submission at full strength by a black belt: a "dangerously effective skill." On day one, that's just 8 seconds.

"This is some of the most uncomfortable training I've done yet," says William. "Boxing was a close second, but at least when you're boxing you have some space between you and your opponent. In Brazilian jiu jitsu, it's skin on skin contact with another sweaty man trying to choke you out and break your arm."

"I noticed that the submissions started coming to me subconsciously," he says, halfway through the month. "When I saw the openings, I didn't have to think so hard about the execution of them. I also developed an awareness of where my opponent's hands were on my body, and what openings I gave to my opponent to submit me. My body had also developed a pain tolerance to the training, and I was starting to have more fun when rolling, rather than feeling extremely uncomfortable."
