Third murder charge in connection with fatal stabbing of dad Neri Morse in Ancoats

A third person has been charged in connection with a fatal stabbing in Ancoats last week. Neri Morse, 24, tragically died after an incident on Pollard Street, just outside of the city centre, at around 6.30pm on Wednesday (April 20). During this incident, a second man - also aged in his 20s - was also injured and rushed to hospital.

Police have now confirmed that Jermaine Leahong, 22, of Lagos Close, Manchester, has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of the 24-year-olddad. He has also been charged with Section 18 assault and possession of a bladed article.

Two men have already been charged with Neri's murder. Rushaun Brown, 23, of Higher Ardwick, Manchester, appeared in court on Monday charged with murder, section 18 assault and possession of a bladed article, as Meshai Newby, 23, of Brydon Avenue, Manchester was also been charged with murder. He appeared in court yesterday (April 26).

Detectives believe this was linked to an incident at Zaf's Go Local on Butler Street between 6.15pm and 6.25pm that evening and are continuing to appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

Police said a vehicle 'used by those responsible for Neri's death in the aftermath' was found in Kenwood Road in Reddish at around 11.45pm that night. Anyone with dash cam footage from this area was also urged to get in touch with officers.

Leahong has been remanded in custody. He will next appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court tomorrow morning (28 April 2022).
