Thierry Henry embarrassed himself with bizarre comments about Manchester United star Leny Yoro
"It's going to be a meme now," laughed Jamie Carragher in response to Thierry Henry.
Carragher's attempt to make light of Henry's analysis suggested he was just as uncomfortable as the Manchester United fans who watched the segment on Monday Night Football.
United's defending against Newcastle at St. James' Park was picked apart by Carragher and Henry, and they made valid points until the Frenchman bizarrely blasted his fellow countryman.
"Please stay on Yoro and [look at] what he's asking for," said Henry, pointing at the analysis screen.
Henry highlighted Leny Yoro's poor positioning for Harvey Barnes' second goal. Yoro should have done better and got tighter to Barnes, which was fair to criticise, but Henry quickly moved onto the 19-year-old glancing over at the linesman, which even Carragher seemed a tad confused by.
"I don't know what he's looking at," said Henry. "Looking at the linesman and trying to see if he's going to bail you out, but I don't know? I don't know if he thought it was an offside or someone had a hold. We all know it's a goal. What are you looking at? I actually don't know. I've never seen it before."
Did it make sense for Yoro to look at the linesman after the goal? No. But did it make sense for Henry to highlight a fleeting, irrelevant moment from a young player? Absolutely not.
It was strange to see Yoro criticised for looking at the linesman for a second because it was an instinctive reaction made in the heat of the battle and not worth analysing on TV.
You could compile hours of footage of defenders giving a quick look to linesmen after conceding goals. Anyone who has played football at any level has done the same in their lives.
Henry's comments were clipped up for social media and quickly
