Thiago Alcantara injury boost as Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp gets 'surprisingly good news'

Jurgen Klopp is hopeful of Thiago Alcantara being cleared to play Saturday's Champions League final against Real Madrid.

The Spain international was forced off at half-time of Sunday's 3-1 win over Wolves and is an injury doubt for the European Cup showdown in Paris on Saturday night.

Thiago was absent from training on Wednesday as Klopp's coaches put their players through their paces at the AXA Centre in front of the media.

However, Klopp confirmed that Thiago is due to return to training on Thursday, giving him a chance to start the game at the Stade de France, revealing the prognosis was "surprisingly good" in his pre-match press conference on Wednesday afternoon.

Klopp said: "I only just met him now inside. There's a good chance he will be training this afternoon. He did some stuff this morning. It was not planned that he was doing this session this morning.

"We hope he can. It is surprisingly good. After the game he was not positive but then we got that news overnight that it was not bad, so we will see. Now it is three days before the game.

"Nobody has any [emotional] pain from Sunday now. We're all really looking forward to it. There are still levels to reach. We don't think that because we reached two other cup finals that we wouldn't care about this.

"It's our third Champions League final in four years. It's a special group. We've had ups and downs in our own Champions League history."
