"They wouldn't say no" – Journalist drops summer exit claim involving West Ham speedster

Journalist Paul Brown reckons that West Ham would be willing to let Ryan Fredricks leave this summer.

The right-back joined the Hammers from Fulham on a free transfer in 2018, but he’s been unable to establish himself as first-choice in his three-and-a-half seasons at the London Stadium.

Fredericks, who’s deal expires in June, has played 72 times for West Ham, although more than 60 percent of those came before the signing of Vladimir Coufal, who’s been a revelation since arriving from Slavia Prague in 2020 and has given the former Fulham and Tottenham defender little chance of playing regularly.

As a result, Fredericks has started just seven Premier League games since the beginning of last season and while Coufal hasn’t been able to hit the heights of 2020-2021, even Ben Johnson appears to have climbed above him in the right-back pecking order.

He did end his near-10 month wait for a top-flight start against Newcastle last weekend but was pulled off at half-time having been the Irons’ worst-rated player on the day. Hammers reporter Tom Clark described him as having a “torrid” time before he was replaced by Johnson at the break.

Once Coufal returns from injury, Fredericks’ chances are once again likely to be limited before the end of the season, and Brown thinks that West Ham could look to get rid of him this summer.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I do think as a club, they wouldn’t say no to him leaving [when his contract expires]. Ryan Fredericks has had plenty of chances and doesn’t really ever seem to look like nailing down a place or putting serious pressure on Coufal.”
