"They will want…" – Dharmesh Sheth drops intriguing Tottenham transfer claim

Tottenham Hotspur ‘will want’ to sign someone capable of playing across the entire forward line this summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

Spurs have already made a handful of additions to Antonio Conte’s first-team squad in the opening weeks of the transfer window with several more expected to follow.

Back in May, The Telegraph claimed that Tottenham’s hierarchy were set to promise volatile manager Antonio Conte six new acquisitions in order to keep him at the club.

So far, deals for goalkeeper Fraser Forster, wing-back Ivan Perisic and midfielder Yves Bissouma have already been concluded, potentially securing half of the capital club’s top targets already.

And left-sided centre-back and a right wing-back are also believed to be high up on Conte’s wish list as he looks to build a side capable of challenging for silverware.

However, securing another source of goals is likely to be a priority for Tottenham chiefs, adding some cover and competition for Harry Kane while also replacing the outbound Steven Bergwijn.

When asked if Spurs will be targeting a versatile attacker this summer, Sheth told GiveMeSport: “I think it’s the age-old question when you speak about Tottenham when they’re after a striker.

“And the question you immediately ask afterwards is, ‘which striker is going to join knowing that he is only going to play if Harry Kane is injured?’ I think they will want someone to be able to play across the whole of the forward line.

“So, you have a fluid forward line of Kane, Son, plus one other, and that one other can play in the centre if Kane isn’t fit but can play alongside Kane in the winged position.”
