They were born together, grew up together - and then murdered together

They are now almost exactly halfway through their sentences. Twins who seemed to have everything going for them - but then turned killer. Here, the M.E.N looks back at the case of Brett and Jordan Francis.

Dripping wet and retching, Jordan Francis peered through the letterbox. 'Can I have an ambulance please?' he asked in a faint stuttering voice.

A paramedic arrived on the doorstep of the home in Runcorn, Cheshire, within minutes. There she found Jordan doubled over..

He told her he had tried to kill himself, pulling up his sleeves to reveal deep cuts to both his wrists, before saying his twin brother Brett - 'born 15 minutes apart' - was still in waters of the nearby River Mersey. Then after being wrapped in a blanket and given oxygen in the back of the ambulance he made a shocking admission.

"We killed someone on Friday night," Jordan told the medic. Some 36 hours earlier, on the night of September 18, 2009, a piece of kerbstone had been thrown onto the bonnet of a Peugeot parked on the drive of a house on Nugget street, in Glodwick, Oldham.

Hearing the crash, the car's owner Amran 'Manny' Khan came outside to investigate. As the dad-of-two opened his front door a gunman opened fire.

The first bullet hit him the chest, the second narrowly missed and lodged in the brickwork, while the third entered his lower back as he turned and slumped to the floor. As neighbours tried in vain to save his life, a stolen BMW 5 series sped from the scene.

Moments later, at nearby Hough Lane, the getaway car was torched. The twins' mother was then shaken awake at their home in Chadderton.
