"They want to make room..." - Journalist makes major claim about Newcastle's summer plans

Newcastle United have a number of squad members who are playing for their futures at the club, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The Magpies currently have the wealthiest owners in world football, and look set to spend big this summer, which should be keeping the current playing staff on their toes.

The situation at St James’ Park is a lot more positive than it was at the start of the year.

Coming into 2022, Newcastle were in serious danger of being relegated, having won just one league game before Christmas.

However, they have been on a phenomenal run in recent months, winning six home top-flight matches on the bounce to break through the 40-point barrier, meaning they are all-but certain of a place in the Premier League next season.

Newcastle’s upturn in form has been helped by their recruitment in January. The North-East club made five signings in the first month of 2022, including Bruno Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier and Dan Burn.

Further additions are likely when the transfer window re-opens in June, and Jones thinks some players will be shown the exit door as well to allow Eddie Howe to revamp his squad.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones said: “You’ve got half that team trying to prove that they’re actually worth keeping for next season. Legitimately, they will sell a lot of the fringe players because they want to make room for new players, and players that could make the squad much better. So, there’s some big names in that squad that have still got a lot to prove.”
