"Knocking on the door" - Journalist makes major claim about £13m Newcastle star

Newcastle defender Dan Burn is “knocking on the door” for an England call up, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Burn has impressed since making the £13m move from Brighton in January, and Jones reckons that his form could lead to recognition from Gareth Southgate.

It’s been some turnaround for the 6 ft 7 centre-back, who wasn’t a regular starter under Graham Potter last season, but he is now one of the first names on Eddie Howe’s team-sheet.

Since making his debut for his boyhood club, Burn has played every minute in the Premier League and has created a formidable partnership alongside Fabian Schar, which has seen Newcastle pull away from danger and move into the top half.

With Burn in the team, the Toon Army have lost just four times in 13, three of which have come against sides currently sitting in the top six, while they’ve kept five clean sheets during that period.

As a result, only Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimaraes and Allan Saint-Maximin have outperformed Burn this season, according to WhoScored, and Jones believes that a Three Lions call up could be on the horizon.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Dan Burn, particularly, has exceeded all expectations. A lot of people almost laughed when he was one of the players signed, because of all of the other players that were linked.

“But Burn has been so good that he’s probably knocking on the door for an England call up.”
