'There was no time to do it' - Romano reveals Everton 'wanted' last-minute deal for 25 y/o star

Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on the Que Golazo YouTube channel about the centre-back Everton missed out on during Deadline Day.

Everton had a manic Monday, appointing a new manager in the form of Frank Lampard before they handed him two brand new midfielders, with Donny van de Beek arriving on loan and Dele Alli joining permanently.

However, it appears that improving the middle of the pitch was not the only area of concern, with Abdou Diallo of Paris Sanit-Germain seen as a potential target that could’ve helped improve a defence that has shipped 35 goals in the league already.

Romano has revealed how Everton ended up missing out on Diallo.

“They were also thinking of a potential centre-back, for example, Diallo of Paris Saint-Germain was a player they wanted to sign, but there was no time to do it on Deadline Day, so time was not helping them.”

TIF Thoughts on Everton wanting a centre-back…

It should come as no surprise that Everton were in the market for a new centre-back given they boast the eighth-worst defence in the league, but it also shouldn’t be surprising to see them not follow through with a move, as they’ve splashed £77.6 million in recent seasons on Michael Keane, Ben Godfrey and Yerry Mina, who Lampard may think he can get a better tune out of.

Someone such as Diallo would not jump out as a centre-back to immediately help solve Everton’s problems given he’s not been a regular starter during his time at PSG, so he would have likely arrived rusty and not used to the Premier League.
