Management isn't supposed to be this straightforward. Kieran McKenna is in his first full season as a manager and he's celebrating promotion after guiding Ipswich Town to a top two finish in League One. The Tractor Boys ended a four-year spell in the third tier in style with a 6-0 thrashing of Exeter City on Saturday.

The Portman Road outfit have won 14 of their last 15 matches, drawing the other, to storm to promotion with McKenna the mastermind. The former Manchester United coach isn't done there either.

Short term, the goal is to finish the season with a victory on the final day that would bring up 100 points and 100 goals, and potentially the title if current leaders Plymouth Argyle slip up. Long term, the objective for 36-year-old McKenna is to lock horns with his former employers in the Premier League.

"Look, the club is very ambitious. I’m very ambitious. I’m sure the players are very ambitious," said McKenna, speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times after winning promotion. "There’s no doubt about it, in the summer we’ll be looking at every which way we can improve the club and keep building this momentum we’ve got.

"This is a club with a fine heritage at the top of English football. It’s a clear goal to get it back there. You never know how long it’s going to take, but there’s no doubt we want to climb back up that pyramid. It will be another big challenge but will be one we’re going to all throw ourselves into.

"This is a wonderful day we'll always remember. We have to cherish it. No doubt about it though, we'll be looking to create more good memories in the future."
