‘There’s no ceiling’ – Merson pinpoints Tottenham’s advantage over Arsenal
Paul Merson believes Tottenham Hotspur hold an advantage over Arsenal in the race to finish in the top four.
The Gunners currently sit fourth in the Premier League. They are three points clear of Tottenham Hotspur with a game in hand.
‘Just’ a goalscorer? Jermain Defoe deserves more respect
Arsenal still have Chelsea, Man Utd, West Ham and Spurs to play before this season comes to an end.
Merson has suggested that Harry Kane could be the difference-maker in the battle for the Champions League.
The forward started the 2021/22 season slowly but he has grabbed seven goals and three assists from his last seven Premier League games.
Ex-Arsenal player Merson has argued that Tottenham will not lose games “if Kane turns up and plays well”:
“Tottenham are still a danger. I’m a massive fan of Harry Kane,” Merson told talkSPORT.
“I just find with Arsenal at the moment they are playing to the best of their ability, to their celling. There’s players I don’t think can play any better.
“With Harry Kane I don’t think there’s a ceiling. If Kane turns up and plays well I don’t think there’s any way that Tottenham lose a football match.
“We have seen it at Man City and West Ham, when he doesn’t turn up at Burnley and places like that they don’t win.”
Meanwhile, according to reports, Tottenham are ‘leading the race’ to sign Barcelona forward Memphis Depay, with several Premier League clubs interested.
