"There's legs to that" – Journalist says Arsenal do have interest in "incredible" £50m star

Arsenal‘s move for Leeds ace Raphinha has “legs” to it, according to The Express reporter Ryan Taylor.

The Brazil international has emerged as a shock target for Mikel Arteta’s side despite being heavily linked with Barcelona.

Arsenal secured their first signing of the window earlier this week when youngster Marquinhos arrived from Sao Paulo on a long-term deal.

And the Gunners are now plotting a move for another Brazilian, with the Telegraph reporting that Arteta’s side are ‘considering’ going for Leeds’ Samba star.

But the report adds that Barcelona remain Raphinha’s likeliest destination, although the La Liga club’s financial problems could see them miss out on the wide man, whose goals helped keep Leeds in the Premier League last season.

Arsenal are yet to make a formal offer for Raphinha’s services, but Taylor reckons their interest is serious despite having pressing issues elsewhere in the squad.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “There’s legs to that. I think Raphinha is a bit of a strange one really, because if Leeds had been relegated, he would have been able to leave for £21m, but he doesn’t have a release clause in his contract now, so I think Leeds are looking at about £50m, which is €55m.”

Arsenal already have one of the finest right wingers in the Premier League in Bukayo Saka, who’s on the back of his most productive campaign in first-team football.

But Raphinha is right up there with the England international and his form for Leeds last season was more evidence of that.

He was involved in exactly 33.3 per cent of their Premier League goals, scoring 11 times, while laying on three assists for his teammates.
