"There's a new realism..." - Journalist drops big Leeds United claim involving £120m duo

Leeds United are starting to come to terms with moving on from Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha, says transfer insider Dean Jones.

The duo have been heavily linked with Manchester City and Barcelona respectively, and Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that the Yorkshire club are now starting to accept they may have to evolve without them.

According to The Athletic, Leeds are expecting City to make a bid for Phillips this summer.

They state that the Premier League champions believe a bid of around £50m will be enough to land the England midfielder and are confident that he is more than open to joining them.

Raphinha could be a bit more expensive, with The Athletic reporting that the Whites could demand up to £70m for their winger.

Barcelona are interested in signing him, but at that price, there will be doubts over whether they can afford the Brazilian given their financial situation.

Jones has told GMS that while Leeds do not want to see Phillips and Raphinha depart Elland Road this summer, they acknowledge it is a real possibility.

The journalist said: “Leeds have to step forward into the future, and while they don’t want to lose Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha, there’s a new realism around the club.

“We all know that [Marcelo] Bielsa was a bit too stubborn when it came to transforming away from what was so successful, but they have to and I think this is part of it.”

It depends on who they sign to replace the two. They have been such important players for Leeds; their absences will be felt if adequate successors are not brought in.
