The World Cup of upsets? Germany suffer shock defeat to Japan

Germany suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Japan at the Khalifa International Stadium on Wednesday.

Germany opened the scoring through an Ilkay Gundogan penalty in the 33rd minute giving them the lead going into halftime.

Immediately after the second half commenced, Japan were more proactive and their efforts were rewarded as they found an equaliser in the 75th minute courtesy of Ritsu Doan, before they took the lead eight minutes later through Takuma Asano stunning the four-time champions. 

Fresh after the Argentina shock defeat to Saudi Arabia yesterday, with Germany suffering a similar surprising defeat only a day later, is this the World Cup of upsets?
