The VAR decision against Manchester United was a disgrace - but Lisandro Martinez spoke the truth

"It's time to accept it and be honest with ourselves," said a crestfallen Lisandro Martinez after Manchester United's defeat against West Ham. "I want the best for this club and I'm pretty sure this club will be in the top and we will give everything to put where it deserves to be.

"I'm so frustrated, honestly, so frustrated because I see every day our skills and quality, and then those days when we finish a game and lose, miss many chances again, it's difficult to accept."

The emotion in Martinez's voice was tangible and the awful decision to award West Ham a penalty in the final seconds was clearly a huge factor in his frustration, but he seemed even more frustrated at United making a meal out of a game they should have won comfortably.

In another interview with an overseas broadcaster, he clarified: "We didn't lose the game because of the penalty. If we score the chances we created, then the game is different."

Martinez was refreshingly honest when conducting his post-match media duties, refusing to blame the penalty decision for United's defeat and pointing at the bucket of wasted chances.

Alejandro Garnacho struck the crossbar before failing to find the corner with another opportunity, Hojlund's close-range shot was saved, Bruno Fernandes' free header from eight yards was sent over the bar, Diogo Dalot missed the chance of the season and Casemiro's header was saved.

United created enough chances in the opening 45 minutes to win two football matches, never mind one, but the game was somehow goalless at half-time, which was embarrassing.
