The true Disney+ series with a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score that has viewers 'ugly crying'

A Disney+ series that scored 100 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes has left viewers 'ugly crying'. A Small Light premiered on the streaming service on May 2, with those who have already binge-watched the series urging others to do the same.

The eight-part series depicts the real-life story of secretary Miep Gies, who helped to hide Anne Frank and her family during the Nazi occupation in 1940s Amsterdam. Miep and her husband Jan sheltered three families in their secret annex for almost two years, all while working her day job and continuing life as normal - or as normal as it could be, during World War II.

Filmed on location in Amsterdam and Prague, the show also highlights that the brave couple were simultaneously hiding many others in and around Amsterdam with the help of the Dutch Resistance. The Diary of a Teenage Girl star Bel Powley plays Miep while Joe Cole, known for roles including John Shelby in Peaky Blinders and Sean Wallace in Gangs of London, is Jan.

Joining the cast is Billie Boulet as Anne Frank, Liev Schreiber as her father Otto Frank, Amira Casar as mother Edith Frank and Ashley Brook as eldest daughter Margot Frank. The series is produced by ABC Signature and Keshet Studios for National Geographic, with Grey's Anatomy producers Joan Rater and Tony Phelan as showrunners.

Meanwhile, the series title comes from something Miep said late in her life: “I don’t like being called a hero because no one should ever think you have to be special to help others. Even an ordinary secretary or a housewife or a teenager can turn on a small light in a dark room.”
