The three positions Leicester City want to sign new starters this summer

Leicester City hope to sign three new starters as part of their plans to revitalise the squad in the summer.

City boss Brendan Rodgers has called for a “healthy shake-up” at the King Power Stadium to introduce “more hunger and more quality” to the team and to get his side challenging at the top again. That will require a busy transfer window in the summer, and Rodgers has said “five or six” new players are needed for his City squad to feel suitably refreshed.

He has also said there will be a focus on bringing in players who will be regular starters, making the point that eight of the 11 that suffered the dismal defeat to Nottingham Forest were at the club before his arrival.

It is understood that of the five or six players City are chasing, they want three who can come straight into the starting line-up. These are the positions City are focused on strengthening.

Defence has been the big issue for City this season, as much because of unavailability of players as well as the underperformance by those in the team.

City do now have five fit central defenders as they prepare for the final two months of the season, with Wesley Fofana and Jonny Evans both returning over the past couple of weeks.

However, that does not mean City are satisfied with their options, and a centre-back will be targeted in the summer. It is believed a left-footed centre-half would be preferred in order to provide a better balance to the defence.

A left-sided centre-back would likely partner Fofana at the back, with the Frenchman deemed one of the few top-level players at the club by Rodgers, and with the 21-year-old having committed his future to the King Power Stadium with a new five-year contract earlier this month.
